Laurel House in Montgomery County. “Working To End Domestic Violence”

January 3, 2008 by admin

Laurel House is the only emergency domestic violence shelter in Montgomery County, Pennsylvania. The shelter was founded by the Women’s Center of Montgomery County in 1980. In 1981, Laurel House was incorporated as an independent nonprofit organization. The name was selected because of the beauty of the laurel, Pennsylvania’s state flower. It represents a victory for those women who have taken the step of coming to Laurel House to be free of the violence in their lives and in the lives of their children.Laurel House is well known as a safe place to heal, but in the past 20 years our programs have expanded. Today, in addition to our 24-hour hotline and shelter, Laurel House offers transitional housing, medical advocacy, legal advocacy, community counseling and support groups, a Community/Education/Training Center, volunteer opportunities, and services to Deaf and Hard of Hearing families. The need for our services has increased along with community awareness. Laurel House invites and needs your support as we continue our work to end domestic violence.http://www.bythezip.com/Companies/1000011478.htm
